Anxiety and stress: supportive care for an over-alert nervous system
Anxiety can show up as persistent worry, muscle tension, rapid breathing, digestive changes, poor sleep, or a sense that the body cannot switch off. These symptoms are real and treatable. Acupuncture may be used as a supportive calming practice, but it does not replace psychotherapy, medication, or crisis care when those are needed.
Which condition matches you?
Ongoing generalized worry
Worry feels difficult to control across several areas of life and may travel with restlessness, fatigue, irritability, tension, or poor sleep.
Panic symptoms
Sudden waves of fear may include chest tightness, shortness of breath, dizziness, tingling, or a racing heart. New chest symptoms still require medical judgment.
Stress-related body symptoms
Jaw tension, headaches, digestive upset, pain flares, and sleep disruption can rise during prolonged stress without meaning the symptoms are imagined.
Our approach
Where it hurts isn't where it starts
Breathing is the vital link between your nervous system and your physical state. When your breath becomes shallow or unstable, the body compensates by overworking the neck muscles—specifically the scalenes and sternocleidomastoid (SCM). Over time, this chronic tension spreads to the center of the chest, particularly around the chest acupoint, creating a physical feedback loop that only worsens your anxiety and chest tightness. Treating only the mental worry can calm symptoms temporarily, but lasting relief comes from addressing the body’s physical foundation. By preventing poor sleep quality, properly regulating body temperature, and replenishing the deep resources your body is lacking, we can restore balance to the nervous system and provide sustainable relief from anxiety.
What the evidence says about acupuncture
Recent reviews report potential reductions in generalized-anxiety symptoms with acupuncture. In a calm treatment setting, we track changes in tension, sleep, digestion, jaw clenching, and the degree to which anxiety interferes with daily life.

How we treat it — our 3-step protocol
Understand the context
We start by listening to how anxiety uniquely affects your life. We ask about its impact on your sleep quality, daily work, chronic pain, digestion, medication use, and overall safety. Our goal is to understand your complete physical landscape without attempting to replace a formal mental-health diagnosis.
Create a low-stimulation session
We design a deeply calming environment to soothe an overactive nervous system. Treatment is paced gently and can be highly adjusted for needle anxiety, sensory sensitivity, and personal comfort. We carefully manage the stimulation level to ensure you feel entirely safe, grounded, and relaxed throughout the session.
Stay connected to primary care
We view acupuncture as a supportive part of your broader wellness team. We actively monitor your patient-defined goals and strongly encourage ongoing psychotherapy, psychiatric care, or medical evaluation when indicated. Our focus is on providing physical relief that safely complements your existing mental health and medical treatments.
